Shared Parental Leave - Eligibility Calculator

Parents-to-be whose babies are due on or after 5 April 2015 are reminded that they can start sharing up to 50 weeks of parental leave, provided they are eligible to do so.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has developed an online calculator to help prospective parents work out what their leave and pay entitlements are under the new system.

Under the new rules, employers must be given eight weeks' notice of the intended pattern of leave, so couples whose child is due just as the changes take effect should be deciding which of the various options available best suits them and notifying their employers of their intentions, if they have not already done so.

The way the new system will operate is quite complicated. The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service has produced free guidance for employees and employers to make preparing and planning the leave as straightforward as possible.
