Family mediation
We now offer a family mediation service, which offers couples facing the breakdown of their relationship the opportunity to resolve issues arising from their separation in a non confrontational way, without resorting to court proceedings.
Working with a totally impartial mediator, you and your partner negotiate your own proposals for the care of your children, financial support, and the distribution of your assets and property. The aim of mediation is to help you reach solutions together that will help you put the past behind you and concentrate on a positive future for yourselves and your families.
Benefits of mediation
- saves time - by getting together with an independent third party, you can often resolve problems more speedily than through the negotiation of your solicitors
- cost effective - future negotiations should be quicker and more straightforward if the basics have been agreed already, resulting in lower legal bills
- positive outcome - mediation is non-adversarial. This helps to reduce bitterness and bad feeling between you and your partner in the future
- control - you have the satisfaction of making your own decisions for the future, rather than handing that power over to the court
- better for your children - mediation encourages you to resolve your differences with your partner and reach agreements in a dignified and constructive way, focusing on the best interests of your children
Mediation is not a substitute for independent legal advice, but a service which complements the legal advice provided by your solicitors. After mediation, further negotiation may still be needed, and the proposals which you have agreed need to be drawn up into legally binding agreements, or consent orders.
