Frequently Asked Questions - making a claim for personal injury
How do I know whether I can make a claim? If you were injured in an accident within the last three years and someone else was at fault, you may be entitled to compensation for the injury that you suffered and for any losses that you incurred. If you were under eighteen years of age when your injury took place, you have three years to make a claim after your eighteenth birthday. What compensation am I likely to get?If you are successful, you could receive compensation for your pain and suffering and any losses that you incurred as a direct result of the accident, for example, the cost of medication; cost of transport to hospital/doctors/physiotherapists; cost of home help to do shopping or housework; cost of repairing/replacing/cleaning clothing affected by the accident; loss of earnings. Are there any hidden charges or costs?Because you do not have to pay any upfront charges for our costs or any disbursements (such as medical reports or barristers fees), there is only a nominal charge for interest at the end of the case. This is around £50.00. Who will handle my claim?A dedicated team of personal injury lawyers will handle your case. They have the experience and expertise to maximise your claim for compensation and make sure that you receive it quickly. How long will my claim take to settle?Personal injury claims normally take around 18 months to settle. This can vary depending on the complexity of the case and other facts, such as the cooperation of the third party or the witnesses. Will I have to visit you at your offices? You will not have to attend our offices as everything can be dealt with over the telephone, by email or through the post. We offer a no hassle service and we will only contact you when it is absolutely necessary. What happens next if I decide to proceed? If you decide to instruct us to handle your case, a member of the personal injury team will contact you within 48 hours to discuss the case with you and to obtain any further information that they may require. Will I need to attend court? Most claims settle by negotiation and it is therefore unlikely that you will need to attend court. |
